The holidays are undoubtedly upon us and with all of the excitement, preparations and decorating, it’s important to not forget about your family pet. A lot of times it’s overlooked, but these extra preparations can lead to quite some hazards for your loved four-legged friend. A few possible danger items to consider are discussed.

NuVet Plus Reviews

Extension cords – These can be a great tool for connecting those outdoor lights or indoor sparkle but be cautious about where you place them. Your dog or cat may be very curious and tempted by this new “string” that is available to them. Chewing on these cords can cause serious damage to them and your home.

Holiday Lights – Along with extension cords, these can pose a dangerous threat to your pet. Outdoor or indoor, these lights can be intriguing for your critter and chewing on them, can cause expose the wires and possibly lead to fires or electrocution.

Poinsettias – A very present staple of the holidays is the Poinsettia Plant. These leaves may be beautiful, but keep them safely away from your pet. The plant is poisonous to them and if chewed, may lead to very severe health risks for your family pet. This applies to both your cat and your dog!

Decorations – It’s hard to avoid the glitter and glow of the holidays but heed warning when using ornaments, tinsel, or other decor in and around your home. Pets may easily play with a tree ornament and break it. Some may be glass, leading to cut paws or worse, ingestion of parts of an ornament. Tinsel can also pose a risk if ingested and lead to possible digestive complications.

Trees – A Christmas tree can be a wonderful decoration in any home. Unfortunately, it can also be a temptation for your cat or dog. To try and avoid any hazards with your tree, make sure it is properly secured to avoid it tipping over if toyed with. Also, if you choose a live tree, be sure the water source for the tree is not accessible to your dog or cat.

Potpourri – Potpourri can sure make a home smell welcoming, but make sure it’s out of the reach of your pet. This applies for dry and liquid-type potpourri. These nice smells can be ingested by your pet and lead to some major issues.

The holidays are meant to be enjoyed by all and your family pet can absolutely be included in the celebrations. Taking extra steps in advance can help keep your pet safe and healthy this holiday season.
