If you are still not sure, keep reading to learn 8 important things about Pugs. It could help sway your decision when it comes time to welcoming this endearing little rascal into your home.

NuVet Labs: 8 Important Things To Know About Pugs

They’re big shedders

Pugs are notorious shedders. So if you decide to welcome one into your home, make sure to have a good brush as well as some lint rollers. A daily brushing won’t hurt your pug and will keep a little less fur off of you and your furniture.

Pugs don’t like to be alone

Pugs were bred to be lap dogs and thus are very devoted. Because of this they  make it their life’s work to love their families wholeheartedly. So if you are a workaholic and the kids are busy with school and after school activities, do not expect your pug to be happy about it. Pugs love attention and companionship, so be prepared and available to provide it. If not, your pug could become depressed and may also exhibit unpleasant behavioral problems, like chewing.

Pugs love babies and children

Pugs have an excellent reputation when it comes to babies and small children. Pugs will gravitate towards little ones because they love the attention and the energy that kids readily offer. Kids also have a tendency to drop food, which is a pug’s most favorite thing in the world, next to their humans of course.

Pugs have a predisposition towards obesity

With their love of food in mind, it is a good idea to keep a close eye on what you feed your pug because pugs have a propensity towards obesity, which can lead to joint problems, cardiovascular issues and other conditions that are not only bad for your pooch but bad for the pocket book.

Get them some stairs or a stool

Pugs always want to be as close to their humans as possible and actually prefer to be on their humans. Because of this, you will probably want to get them a stool or other helpful climbing device they can use to get on your couch or even your bed.  If you choose not to, all that jumping will probably catch up with your beloved pug’s joints – and you wouldn’t want that.

Susceptible to colds

Because of their interesting facial anatomy pugs are susceptible to colds and other respiratory issues, which includes allergies and snoring. You may find that you are regularly visiting your vet because of these issues so keep that in mind when considering a pug for your household.

They get overheated easily

Again, because of their unique yet adorable facial anatomy, pugs are considered brachycephalic (short nosed), which makes them prone to overheating, which means it is very important that you keep your pug’s temperature regulated. So pay close attention to warm weather, hot or poorly insulated cars and vigorous activity.

They have no idea how small they are

Pugs are known for having a lot or personality inside of a small body. With that in mind, your pug will be the last to realize how small they are so keep an eye on them around other dogs and animals. Your pug may be very protective and could get himself into hot water.

As you can see pugs may be the perfect pet for your family or they may not be depending on your lifestyle.
